Present tense

One present tense covers both 'I work' and 'I am working'.

Polish has no 'do' vs 'am doing' split — a single present tense does both jobs. Verbs sort into a few ending patterns; learn the ja and ty forms of each pattern and the rest fall into place.

•Pattern 1: -ę / -isz (mówić). Pattern 2: -ę / -esz (pić). Pattern 3: -am / -asz (mieszkać).
•Endings carry the meaning, so the pronoun is optional.

Mówię trochę po polsku.

I speak a little Polish.

Pijemy kawę.

We are drinking coffee.

Oni pracują w Warszawie.

They work in Warsaw.

🧠 Tactic — Sort each new verb into one of the three boxes (-isz, -esz, -asz) the moment you learn it, and you can conjugate the whole thing.

⚠️ Watch out — Only imperfective verbs have a real present. A 'perfective present' like zrobię actually means the future — 'I will do'.
